Starting November 2024, New York City will require residential buildings with one to nine units to use new, secure trash bins. These bins, which cost around $53 for a 45-gallon size, aim to reduce rodent infestations and injuries among sanitation workers. Fines will be imposed on those who don’t comply. The new policy, dubbed a “trash revolution,” is part of the city’s effort to containerize 70% of its waste. Some residents, however, are skeptical about the bins’ effectiveness and cost.
